The San Mateo Project

Lives of San Mateo County, CA

Meet Dakota

Dakota H lost his arm after a serious car accident and has been surviving on the streets ever since. What he wants most is a bike — not just for travel, but to live in. “A house on wheels,” he called it. For Dakota, a bike means shelter, movement, and freedom — all in one.

Every dollar brings him one step closer.

Meet Clinton

Clinton S is currently staying in a local shelter, working every day to rebuild. In 2018, he and his grandmother lost their home in a devastating fire. Since then, he’s faced addiction and hardship;  but now, he’s focused on recovery. Clinton’s wish is housing — a safe place where he can finally begin again.

Every dollar brings him one step closer.

Meet Daelos

San Mateo County local, Daelos M., finds peace in nature and dreams of building something beautiful. Her wish is simple: a bag full of vegetable seeds to grow an indoor garden. When we met her, she was full of light as she smiled just from a bottle of water. A garden would give her more than food — it would give her something to care for, and a reason to keep growing.

Every dollar brings her one step closer.

Meet Darnell
San Mateo County local, Darnell W. spends his days walking the streets of downtown San Mateo. After years of instability, his one wish is simple: a place to call home. Darnell shared with us that finding stable housing would change everything; offering safety, rest, and a fresh start.

Every dollar brings him one step closer.

Meet Robert

San Mateo County local, Robert F. was forced into early retirement after a serious shoulder injury. He’s now homeless and struggling to get back on his feet.

Every dollar brings him one step closer.
